It’s because it’s PC music tho… he started it & literally all the OG’s from the pc music label HATE the hyperpop label including Charli. I think it was 100 gecs who got put into that category & that’s why they have completely split up & are doing solo projects now cause I think they got tired of being put under that category, Dylan was producing way before that & it’s just odd that people changed everything to hyperpop. AG & Sophie both said it’s just a different version of pop & electronic music. Hyperpop idk this is why Sophie started working on an electronic techno project (even acid house inspired tracks) before her passing cause she was tired of that trend

The way most PC music describe Hyperpop, its more of a movement it seems then an actual genre; which makes more sense. Trying to tie down key points in the "genre" of hyperpop is impossible, tying it down to a period of time/change is more convenient and easier to describe.

I feel like hyperpop is more of a cultural thing and not a genre, like ARTPOP by lady Gaga isn’t hyperpop it’s edm, but personally I consider it hyperpop

Kristian Bansil :
Hyperpop is a timely label that came after comparing PC-Music to pop of the late 2000s due to the very “poppy, sugary” approach. /// Now that we’re in a time where media is hyper-algorthmized means we’re never going to have real mainstream “pop”.

I think genre labels are more for the audience and not for the artist, they can discover acts who overlap in taste

I just call it deconstructed club or deconstructed pop. Some of it even falls under electroclash which was a heavily flushed out genre in the early 2000s late 90s

It got that term cause there was already sounds similar happening at the time. They just advanced it. It was interesting. I remember loving Nina Las Vegas’ label back then.

I actually refer to it as ‘Post-Pop’, I heard that term in Anthony Fantano's review of Charli XCX's 2019 album and it perfectly summarises the sound of ‘Hyperpop’

I hate slapping genres on music. Makes you feel boxed in but helps people find stuff. So it’s weird. 💐
