@makeupbyperlalarios: Unpopular opinion: having one signature style isn’t what elevates your artistry — versatility is. Bridal clients don’t book like lash or nail clients. Most brides will only hire you once in their lifetime, which means your client pool is naturally smaller and your season is limited. If you only market one look, you’re not creating a luxury brand — you’re narrowing your opportunities. High-end artistry isn’t about putting every client in the same aesthetic. It’s about mastering natural, soft glam, and full glam at an exceptional level — and customizing each look to the woman in your chair. The goal isn’t to be known for one style. The goal is to be known for excellence in every style and customer service! #bridalmua #muajourney #aspiringmua #promua #promualife

I have been a bridal makeup artist for 14 years now and I actually would have to disagree with this post and I didn’t in the beginning of my career. I was very versatile. I wanted to be able to do everything from graphic liner. Looks to really edgy brides to classic natural brides, etc. however, I was constantly getting people who didn’t align with me and I couldn’t figure out why until I took this course where she told me that I clearly have a signature style and I need to hone in on that. I also a makeup artist we should all definitely be versatile. There’s no question in that but if your style is all over the place people don’t know if they should come to you. You get people who are looking for more natural make up and then if they see someone dramatic on your page, they run the other way. I do more traumatic soft glam that doesn’t mean that I can’t do natural makeup for a bridesmaid, but what it does mean is that for my Bride specifically I want them to come to me based off of my portfolio because then we’re gonna be happy and if they have a mom who wants full glam or natural, I can do that for them, but when I implemented this change, my business literally skyrocketed

I’m extremely versatile and my mentor said that might be a bad thing. I think that advice work for ppl who don’t really have the versatility

So true. It might work in a big city but I work in a very working class suburban area. Especially since trends change so quickly being too niche is just shooting yourself in the foot. I mostly do bridal hair and makeup but I’m also a full service hairstylist. I don’t really have a slow season because I take color, haircutting, nail clients year round.
