August 26, 2026 Someone always asks, “Isn’t it too late to plant tomatoes, green beans, sunflowers, etc., in San Antonio?” 🤔 C’mon now! 😂 Y’all know I’m a habitual garden rule breaker, so what kind of question is that? If there’s still time on the growing season clock, I’m planting it! 🌱🍅 Our growing season here in San Antonio, Texas is a whole different ballgame. Yes, this August heat is absolutely no joke, but once those temperatures start easing up, tomatoes, green beans and more can really take advantage of our fall growing season. And I’m speaking from experience. Last year, I started tomatoes from seed late summer and was harvesting tomatoes in November! 🍅🙌🏾 I was also harvesting watermelons in November, so you already know I’m going to push this growing season as far as Mother Nature will let me. For me, the key is being strategic. I use taller crops to provide some afternoon shade and give my younger plants a little relief from that Texas sun. Right now, it’s about getting those plants established so they’re ready to take off when the weather starts cooperating. So no, I don’t think late August automatically means “too late” for tomatoes, green beans and more here in San Antonio. Every garden is different, and last year’s harvest showed me just how much growing time we can squeeze out of our San Antonio, Texas weather. Anybody else planting tomatoes and green beans for a fall harvest? 🍅 #SanAntonioGardening #FallGarden #Zone8b #GardeningInTexas #mygardenmyrules
