In this video, I explain how cold is too cold to paint a shed and what actually matters when temperatures drop into the low 30s. Years ago, painting below 50°F was a hard no, but modern paints have improved and now commonly allow application down to around 35°F. The real issue isn’t air temperature—it’s surface temperature. If the shed walls are too cold, the paint will skin over on the outside without curing underneath, leading to peeling, flaking, and early failure. I show how to check surface temperature properly using an infrared thermometer and explain why guessing based on outdoor temps is risky. I also share a practical workaround I use professionally: pre-painting wall panels like LP SmartSide at home in a warm garage, letting them fully dry and cure before installation.
