How to frame vertical videos properly (It’s super easy) For talking head videos on vertical there are 2 shot sizes I recommend. Wide & Medium A Wide shot is a framing that shows off your whole body. This will require the camera to be a decent distance away from you depending on whether you are standing or sitting down. In this scenario, I would recommend you leave empty space on the top of the frame because that will get cropped in on these social media apps. A Medium shot is a framing that shows off half your body, typically waist up. This will require the camera to be a moderate distance from you, sometimes arms’ length works. And typically it’s best to have the camera at eye level. Once again leave empty space on the top of the frame to prevent being cropped out. I don’t recommend shooting closeups for talking head videos because of how invasive it can feel. A closeup has it’s place for dramatic effect or for emphasizing a point.
