@gaiusflavius: Not all heroes wear capes, some wear feathers 🦢 After Rome was sacked by the Gauls in 390 bc, the last defenders held the Capitoline Hill. One night the Gauls tried to scale the cliffs in silence. The Roman guards failed to notice, but the sacred geese of Juno’s temple did. According to Livy, their sudden clamor woke the soldiers just in time. Marcus Manlius Capitolinus rallied the defense and drove the attackers back. Romans later saw the episode as a sign of divine protection. Rome endured not only through arms, but through the favor of the gods. #geese #romanhistory #ancientrome
