one of the things I disliked most about this book was that almost every scene revolved around Helena's presence. and that's why many important events took place off-screen. It felt like watching a low-budget movie that couldn't afford to film its most expensive scenes, so instead, those events were merely presented as if they were newspaper articles ... what happened to the 'show, don't tell' rule?

Definitely a hard book to get through and not because its dark, but because it was sooo boring 😩. They gave us so much information with no drama. I truly tried to enjoy it but it was not it!!!!!!

I feel to fully understand this book you needed to look up definitions and take notes in part 1. If you didn’t your going to be lost, feel there’s no plot etc. The ending wasn’t emotional like everyone says I actually felt it was a happy ending. There definitely needed to be a glossary. The correct order to read this book is … Part 1, Part 2, Part 1, Part, 3.

I listened to the audiobook and yeh I just feel like it was punishing for the sake of being punishing. Some key plot lines like the array in Kaines back it jsut didn’t stand out as that big of a moment even though was clearly important to the resolution. Same as her resolving that like just sort of was like yep it’s sorted. I also think Helena became annoying I really liked her but her relentless need to save this guy seemed sort of misplaced and I really couldn’t get myself to like their love story. It was codependency and trauma bonding - not romantic. Like this guy kills all these people but can’t find away to not assault his partner? Hated that plot line so much.
