I am almost in high school and I see a lot of my peers struggle to grasp the most basic concepts, like how to find credible sources. I know a lot of my peers that just go with the first thing they see on google, or even worse, the google AI overview. I know I'm young, but stuff like this that make me fear for the future of this world and the direction that we are headed as a society. My teachers make us do reading and writing exercises every day, and it scares me to see so many of my peers, especially the ones on the younger side, unable to do very simple things, like properly punctuate a paragraph. I am honestly so suprized that my teachers haven't quit yet lmao

Bush's "Leave no child behind" left every child behind. Between that and changing how reading was taught, this must somehow be part of the conservatives agenda. Less educated people have always been drawn more to conservatism ideologies

Im a substitute teacher! I’ve noticed that kids that had their formative years during lockdown were the most impacted, I’m seeing middle school age students now and they are much more eager to learn

You know what I saw in real time happening at the same time? a CRAZY sharp turn in mommy group spaces online and what was promoted as good parenting. It happened so fast and so dramatically. omg is the CIA in the mommy groups

I hate how the teachers blame technology when the dumbing down the children was the government's goal the whole time.

“No child left behind” was specifically designed to leave children behind.

This issue also exists in scientific literacy. I’m studying to be a science teacher, and I hope to help turn that around 😭

no child left behind, a rise of tech in school, disinterested parents, all this is leading to a conflict and uneducated public controlled by government backed AIs

It was a major issue with a garbage resting curriculum! big corp has ravaged education and all the bonds we get, our tech and everything is just garbage. Most schools with funding are now getting rid of this curriculum (Lucy Caulkins) and getting more science backed reading. but per usual, less advantaged communities are not getting the curricular changes fast enough!

i’m 20 and i like can’t engage with people critically anymore not for lack of trying but for lack of reciprocation. nobody wants to have an intellectual conversation, nobody respects each other, and nobody can critically think!!! it’s crazy!!!

I’m in high school it doesn’t take long to find some one illiterate aswell I feel like it’s not a student issue I feel like it’s a social media Aswell for government issue it’s seen as cool to not care about your studies as kid rn it’s worrying seeming so many of my classmates not having the ability to js think for themselves and not rely on social media for opinions

didn't you say that younger people are more pro-socialist? are you arguing that they are less informed but still smarter because they like socialism? I am honestly confused.
