She said she liked me first, I agreed bc I had nothing better to do. I wasn’t looking for a relationship but she was nice and I figured if try it out since she was the first and only person I ever thought could like me. It was nice, we texted and called every day, wrote each other love letters and celebrated every tiny moment together, bought each other gifts we knew they couldn’t get for months because of the distance between us. One day I saw the first crack as we both started to pull away, our lives pulling us in opposite directions and our mental healths putting a barrier between us, pushing the crack further and further part until the connection was only a string. But even then neither of us could bare to cut it, neither of us could bare to leave. Until the day we broke. The day neither of us could take it and I let go but even then I couldn’t break that string. And through that string she chipped away at me, breaking me more and more but even then I couldn’t give up on her, kept going back to the single string barely keeping us together. Now I’m holding onto that string like it’s a lifeline even if it’s ripping me apart but how do I let go?
