@thepandaredd: #stitch with @montie it 110% does not matter if Jason did it from a story standpoint, what matters is that Bruce not only thinks he was capable OF doing it but that because of that, he absolutely did. #batman #dc #jasontodd #robin

Also, like Bruce explicitly saying fathers try to kill the people who killed their sons, immediately before Jason’s death, adds meta-tragedy for the trolley problem that the end of UtRH. Bruce frames it as axiomatic. And he refused to do it for Jason. Like no wonder the guy wanted reassurance that his father ever cared about him.

God I would rather have it that Bruce believes that Jason just spooked him but is mad at him because he didn’t SAVE Felipe AFTER HE FELL that’s a more believable reason for Bruce to be upset with him because the other option is immediately assuming his sons a murderer and I don’t like that

I just had a thought that makes me respect Jason even more. Bruce said he doesn't kill because he knows if he does he won't be able to stop himself. but Jason has killed, and he's still controlled, Jason is literally striking the balance that Bruce never could.

this just illustrates in my opinion the biggest problem with Batman overall. a lot of us were introduced to Batman firstly through the 90s TV show. that is objectively the best version of batman, he is the Pinnacle of all the things Batman should be. the unfortunate truth of the matter though is every major interpretation of Batman before and after that fail miserably to measure up to that standard. I can honestly say that if Jason Todd existed in that universe I think that Batman would have handled the situation infinitely better and honestly the Red Hood likely would never exist. Jason becoming the Red Hood is a direct response to this very moment. his first true father in his eyes the one that showed him love and care better than his biological father ever did betrayed him and cast him aside which turned him into the red hood. I truly believe that even if Jason did still go to Ethiopia and die by the Joker's hand he would not have come back as bad as he did if it wasn't for this very moment. think about it from a child's perspective, his whole world crumbled right here. the man who was supposed to protect him cast to my side and believed the worst about him without a second thought or ever truly investigating whether or not he was innocent I could never see Kevin Conroy's Batman doing something like that.

That one moment where Batman assumes, probably sent him on his path to becoming Red Hood. One of world’s premiere detectives, could have prevented his fate if he hadn’t assumed.

This is a pretty weird blind spot for Bruce. It reminds me of the original Cassandra Cain Batgirl run in the 00's. Where he learns Cass may have killed a man and he just shuts the very idea of it down and then when he's faced with overwhelming evidence he chooses to find an alternative. the film was doctored. That always rubbed me the wrong way because 1.) he's the world's greatest detective so he should, at bare minimum be able to verify if actual film was altered, and 2.) She was a child who didn't understand what death was but was made to experience it first hand and realize what, exactly, she has been made for. And he chooses to ignore it for a puritanical view that 'none of my partners can be killers'

I loved the fact that Jason’s expression showed no remorse for what happened to Felipe, which I’m not really surprised by. Jason grew up on the streets and experienced firsthand the injustice of the system and how it treats lower-class people. But it made a lot of readers believe that Jason did push him off. That was the first assumption many readers had. To them, Jason is a street kid who was bound to turn to violence in the end. Also, if Batman thinks Jason did it, they’ll believe Batman because he’s the greatest detective in the world. A lot of them chose not to see it from Jason’s perspective or believe him, which is one of the many saddest aspects of his character

I wonder what would happen if, now that we know Jason has killed people after he came back from the dead, Jason tells Bruce that he didn't kill Filipe cuz at that point why would Jason lie about it when he has actually killed people now

I’m currently reading through Jason’s original comic books and reading through Starlins Batman and I’m just so consistently surprised how much is seems like Starlin really doesn’t seem to like the concept of robin

The most ironic part is that during this time at the continuity, Bruce had just killed the KGBeast on purpose. Locked him in a sewer to starve to death. Told jim not to worry about it anymore. It’s been retconned since but at the time of this comic being released, it was canon.

I always took it as Bruce projecting. It made me wonder if Bruce had a moment that we never saw where in a fit of rage he did something similar. Or if Bruce feared the possibility of himself doing such.

and it makes sense that jason can now kill cause if bruce think he is a killer, than what does it matter if he upholds the code or not. If bruce thinks he is a killer than he might as well abandon the code because he broken the code, no matter what actually happened.

I think Bruce desires nothing more than to punch some villains' tickets, but fears what that would make of him, but that makes him blind that his Robins just... don't think like him. I think Jason didn't *want* to end Filippe, whether he did or not, but Batman can't see that.

I dont know what idea I prefer, the idea that Batman deep down had prejudice against his own son and inherently believed he would do it, or that Batman refuses to believe Jason wouldnt because if Bruce was in his situation at that age he would have done it without a second thought

I blame the writers mostly like the animosity Bruce gets for Jason sometimes is like wait you're one of the worlds greatest detectives a genius and just go straight to he did it ...no investigation no benefit of the doubt just yep time to argue/throw hands with Jason again because he must be in the wrong.... plus if I remember wright wasn't Bruce 100%going to kill Joker after Death in the family and this destroyed him emotionally until tim came along?

I always enjoyed this because if they had addressed this later when Jason goes off on Bruce for never believing/trusting him. if Jason mentioned how he automatically assumed he killed Felipe and not he had tried to stop him from falling which was why he was upset. making it a "my parents choosing to punish me for things I never did" situation
