Frodo's mission wasn't to destroy the ring it was to produce a situation where the ring could be destroyed. No one can destroy the willingly.

Sauron did catch Frodo at mount doom though. Whenever Frodo declare the ring as his, Sauron spots him and sends the nazguhl to retrieve him but it’s too late.

The ring did finally get to Frodo. If Gollum didn't take it and fall into the lava, Frodo would have just left Mount Doom with the ring.

A lot of holes here. Sauron knew a hobbit had the ring and Frodo didn’t willingly throw the ring, Sauron knew no one would want to destroy it

but why would sauron think aragorn has the ring? wasnt its presence felt by sauron on the other side of gates, long before aragorn showed up? it just made no sense that a strategist like sauron would be fooled like a child with candies.
