The liberal party has always tried to cover too much of the political ground in one party and to even make this work internally they had to allow members of the party to cross the floor in parliamentary votes - unlike the labor party. That was a sign if ever there was one that they were not all on the same page politically and a sign of things to come. Then they lost a damaging number of seats to the teals as they nibbled away at their left wing so badly that they decided to get some leftie (read female) votes back with Susan Ley as leader. The true politician’s move - don’t go down fighting for your beliefs when you can get elected just by changing your image. But it is not working. They might as well dump the left elements and go full conservative and they might still be standing when a conservative coalition is required to win an election because at the moment they have no credibility as standing for anything. If they went full conservative they would give some credible experience to a coalition with One Nation and have a chance of winning an election.
