@rawr_its_paige: This is a radioactive piece of military technology that belongs in a museum and I found it in a thrift store for $3.99. Coolest thrift ever! #thrift #ww2 #military #technology #thriftfinds
Came for the oranges, stay for the thrift store history lessons.

I was a Radar technician for the Army. And am now a Radar maintenance tech for the Space Force as a civilian contractor. I would LOVE to buy that from you if we could agree on a price!!

Paige. I think people are leading you astray. That gizmo is actually the machine that will take you into the future. Just figure out how it works. And then take us with you. Maybe 3 years into the future. Please.

What if the stores not there anymore and you ask an old man where it went and he says “there’s never been a thrift store there, nothings been in that building since the fire, 70 years ago!” Because that’s the only logical reasoning I can think of, of you finding and buying this amazing item by happenstance.

First, go back to the thrift store, they probably have more stuff from the same person. Then contact people that deal in militaria? And they might have some kind of auction or go to eBay for last resort. Because you don’t really want to ship it.

I work with digital signal processing. 200 mega cycles is the old way of saying 200 MHz. I see that tube is capable of 600 MHz. The wavelength of 600 MHz is about 20 ft, which is 3x shorter than 200 MHz (60 ft). I would guess that gives 3x the resolution for the radar.

I’m much older than you and also certain my life has not been nearly as interesting. I usually claim a sprinkle of tism, but it’s not serving me nearly as well as yours. Rock on Paige!

Maybe get it authenticated for documentation and see if there’s a museum or university you’d be ok lending it to that can keep it safe/insure it, otherwise it would make a really cool display piece in your home!

That's wild! What I want to know is WHO had it before it ended up at the thrift store and why was it just donated?! My guess is it was part of an estate clean out after someone passed but wow!!

Galen Laconis :
In radar, "200 mega cycles" refers to a frequency of 200 megahertz (MHz), which means the radar system transmits and receives signals at a rate of 200 million cycles per second.
