Malaysia Chinese here. It is always called “Selamat Tahun Baru Cina” in Malay - which means Chinese new year. Idk why it has been twisted as Lunar New Year in recent years 😭

Technically it’s not even Lunar New Year because Chinese calendar uses Lunisolar not only Lunar. I think the Islamic calendar is Lunar based.

lunar New Year isn't right, that would be called "islam new year" but instead. Chinese New Year is based on the LUNISOLAR calendar.

Luna new year is not right but you can call it Chinese, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese etc any other new year you want, but no Luna new year and it won’t replace Chinese new year

“Lunar New Year” is not a lived holiday. So saying “people celebrate Lunar New Year” flattens reality. It treats several separate cultural holidays as if they were one thing. That’s why it feels wrong, because it is. Many Han Chinese here claiming the lunisolar calendar but it actually was the Baiyue ( Bach Viet) tribal people lived in the southern part of current China today who invented it. The calendar was invented based off cultivation schedule of water rice. The Huaxia people ( Han Chinese nowadays) adopted the calendar during their expansion/ invasion to the south.
