In this video, I show a clean, repeatable way to cut precise electrical box openings in OSB so everything lines up perfectly. Instead of guessing measurements or free-handing the cut, I use a basic laser line level to reference the corner of the electrical box and transfer that alignment directly to the OSB. Once the panel is secured, I mark out the standard one-gang box size—2.5 inches wide and 4 inches deep—then transfer those lines carefully. The key is using a fresh wood blade on an oscillating tool and taking your time. These tools let you be very controlled and accurate if you don’t rush the cut. I work the depth gradually to match the 5/8-inch OSB thickness, keeping the cut tight and clean. The result is a box opening that fits properly, looks professional, and lines up exactly with the electrical box—no oversized holes or sloppy edges.
