@martinlewismse: On a Plan 2 Student loan? Why freezing the repayment threshold from 2027 to 2030 is, in my view, a breach of natural justice. A brief audio explainer
There’s an entire generation of plan 2 student loan payers (like myself) that will never vote Labour in our lifetimes because of this. The contempt the chancellor has shown for us is utterly astonishing. We make up a very large section of the working population now. We can’t afford homes without bank of mum and dad loans, we can’t afford to have children because the cost of childcare has exploded and we’re being treated like we mean nothing to this country. None of the economic conditions we now experience in our 20s and 30s were present when the Chancellor bought her first house, got married and had children. None.

Feel free to share with anyone on Plan 2. As for what to do if you're on it and agree. The most effective thing is to write/email your MP, but not with a template letter (that looks like orchestrated campaign group) use your own words. If they get lots of those they sit up and take note.

Martin please keep pressuring the government on this. This ain’t fair and not what I signed up for. People will be paying back student debt even on minimum wage soon and isn’t right.

It’s shocking! I worked out an 80k salary would be paying back at 9% £666 a month! 😳

Student loan was not properly advised. I don’t believe students were able to make an informed decision when all the facts weren’t given. I honestly regret having one.

I am sorry but your guidance on accepting the student loans has been Nieves the government has changed the rules to 40 years and so people will be in debt all their lives, they are paying over the top interest rates, it would be better to take out a more competitive loan and pay it off

They've always resisted calling it a tax. They can't have it both ways.

I just checked my account and have accrued almost £20,000 in interest! When I signed up the interest rate was very low - I would not have gone to uni if I knew they could up the interest rate so much.

I am on a plan 2 and feel I have been misold my repayment plan. Furthermore, I feel I was misold going into higher education due to how all repayment plans work. I cannot understand why graduates have to sacrifice so much of their income to pay off the loan and it's unnecessary interest. If you want graduates to increase the economy, the government need to scrap interest on student loans for everyone

It’ll be ten years since I graduated this year. I left uni with £18k debt, have worked full time ever since, checked my balance yesterday and I owe £22k. Ten years, £4k worth of interest added despite payments every month.

So what more can be done about it? My 49k loan is sat at 52.5k (plan 2 and postgrad) on a +£73k salary having paid 10k off. It’s not even made a dent in the 5 years since I left my undergrad and 3 years since my postgrad. We have to do SOMETHING

Still paying a student loan from over 20 years ago! I went bankrupt since then & it wasn’t accepted to be included. I’m in Scotland if that makes a difference.

And those who needed higher funding from gov (higher loan maintenance) have to pay even more despite being the ones that needed that increase for only qualifying reasons (low income)

We need to speak up about this. It’s so wrong. How dare Rachel say it’s fair. Define fair because that’s clearly not it

we are currently trying to work out the finances for my daughter to start uni in September. we will have paid our mortgage off by then and so hubby is willing to take the course fees out of his stocks and shares isa to pay the course fees and then we pay back into it as if we still have a mortgage. does it make sense to this rather than build up a massive student loan. oh and she wants to study in Scotland, so it's a 4 year degree.

I just saw Reeves saying that we "have two repayment plans" and the changes are fair because she's bringing plan 2 "into line" with the plan 5, and I'm fuming. For starters, that's just nonsense, we have five plans and they're all different. But more importantly, we never signed up to the terms of plan 5! You can't change the terms of the loan a decade after we signed our contracts. 💩
