My wife masks in presence of her own mother, but not for me. Which is both flattering - she obviously really trusts me (besides I'm neurodivergent myself), yet slso terrifying - how did she grow up feeling the need to act "to be acceptable" for her own parents?!

communication with women is a lot more indirect which for me is really difficult. I found out I'm only able befriend women if they're ND as well, or at least grew up as someone considered "weird".

I’ve always wanted a close female friend, I usually have the worst luck and end up choosing a narcissistic female friend or one who just uses me for their own benefit but offers no real friendship bc I’m so naive

I think this is part of why I am so lonely now that I am married. I hated female friends. They were so much work and I had to mask so much more with them. I could just be myself with my guy friends.

Curious, I had the opposite experience. As a guy I literally had only one guy friend and the rest were women. People assumed I was gay because I hung out around women without trying to sleep with them. Got a late autism diagnosis in my 30s. That one guy friend? Also turned out to be on the spectrum.

I wonder if those autistic girls weren’t worried that those men wouldn’t take advantage of them…I have always felt uncomfortable around men, they were really cruel to me in school and later all the men who approached me only wanted me sexually 😭
