Yes you pay for healthcare with your taxes but when you go to the hospital you pay almost nothing or nothing. You also don't wonder which hospital works with your insurer. In my opinion, this is the best system for now.

average wage in us is 63k average wage in france is 56k so they are about the same given hours worked. cost of living though including housing is about half of the US.
