It’s definitely demonic. Hooves, sulfur smells, anything done in 3’s, all these are definite signs of the evil one. Could be summoned by witchcraft or someone into ouija boards. That “door” has to be opened and the entity invited in somehow, that’s usually called the infestation stage. She was right to leave, this stuff is not just scary stories around a campfire, it’s real whether you believe it or not.

Cults can be scary. I think it would align with your community’s likes. As for this story, I think people were actively up in the attic while she was living there.

I don't think demons use toilets and need to raise the seat. First guess -- there's another way into the house she doesn't know about. A male intruder is getting into the building and making noises to scare her into leaving. If he's into witchcraft that's another issue and he may also have conjured something up. But there is still human agency involved. Can you actually picture a demon raising the toilet seat?

phew! girl, everyone should have a fear of attics. not that every attic is haunted, but I treat attics the same way as I do basements lol. also this sort of reminds me of the boy in the walls. that movie is so... crazy. if I were this person, I'd take matters into my own hands and call whatever shaman, healer, medium, demonologist I could find and see how they could help or if they could.. also I think they wanted her to just eliminate wastes onto the candle for whatever reason. and a human could live upstairs and still conjure up some sort of ...entity.
