@ffs_oyo_command: At about 20:44 hours yesterday, Sunday 8th February, 2026, firefighters from the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Oyo State Command Headquarters, led by DSF Omogoroye, swiftly responded to a reported fire outbreak in a residential building at Alakia Airport Road, Papa Junction, Ibadan, Oyo State. The fire confined to a four-bedroom bungalow covering an area of 40 m by 60 m used for residential purposes was successfully extinguished by the gallant responding team from the command using one medium jet of water from FFS 168. Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was caused by an electrical surge. The incident underscores the importance of safety consciousness, such as using certified electrical appliances and cables, switching off all electrical appliances and sockets when not in use, installing surge protectors, and conducting regular maintenance to prevent similar occurrences. Personnel of the Oyo State Fire Service and a crew of policemen from the Gbagi Market Division also provided support during the operation. The Federal Fire Service, Oyo State Command, reaffirms its commitment to prompt emergency response and urges residents to prioritise safety at all times, as prevention remains safer and more cost-effective than firefighting.
