What started as a fire in a nearby market quickly reached a stockpile of military explosives and in an instant the blast tore through the city. Homes were d£stroyed, streets filled with debris, and thousands of people fled in panic. The d£@th toll reached over a thousand, with tens of thousands displaced. Many victims lost their lives while trying to escape and entire communities were left in shock. . In the days that followed, then-President Olusegun Obasanjo visited the site to survey the destruction and demand answers about why such d@ngerous expl0!ives were stored so close to residential areas. Then-Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, who is now President, accompanied him and also called for urgent measures to prevent a similar d!s@ster in the future. .
