My style merges very quickly with whatever I am reading or listening to. In order to avoid the issues that creates, I have three books on the go in three different styles at all time.

I enjoy your content and others like this, but it's made me realize that I write because it's fun. My goals have shifted because I don't think I want (or have the will) to put in the work. it sounds silly, but that realization has freed me to enjoy my writing so much more.

What if I barely read yet I find the idea of writing or sharing a story in general so cool and I want to do it? Maybe what I’m really asking is how do you read? Meaning things like schedule, do you keep anything in mind, do you ever write things down, or do you just enjoy your time, are audiobooks as effective when trying to learn? Things like that

I could develop my own writing style, but the problem is, I felt like i'm doing it wrong the moment I do a little tell in a 'show, don't tell' rule (And I got more conscious of my own writing style eversince I read Twilight and its writing style)

I’ve been thinking about finally writing some fiction/short stories after doing some creative writing with friends online for years, so I’m always looking for helpful practical tools!

I don't know many authors, but I do know two that I like so far.

One thing I’ve stepped away from is writing character A’s regional accent as it would sound in real life, with the exception of very specific words or phrases. Then, when I switch to character B’s pov in which B is recalling something character A said, I sometimes write A’s dialect as B would have heard it (especially if B feels derisive of whatever A was saying).

it’s interesting how similar these steps are to being a jazz musician, particularly step one. St first you’re going to copy and quote your favorite musicians which eventually blends into your own voice.

I went through those phases and now I have my own way of writing, but I'm constantly criticized for having a specific writing style, and that's discouraging.

Yep I’ve often grabbed several books of similar authorial tone and read bits of them interchangeably. It’s like navigation of style by writing hero triangulation

Oh balls. Don't throw the imitation one at a guy that loves Poe. I enjoy reading him, but writing him might break my brain haha
