so we're just not going to talk about how the whole plan to save Han makes absolutely no sense? Or how the Empire was beaten by Ewoks? Or how the big bad is just ANOTHER death star (a criticism people had no problem levelling at the force awakens.) I don't think anyone disputes the throne room scenes are fantastic. the rest is mid and kind of a mess.

The opening is a heist film!! How cool is that? A heist film in Star Wars! It's the most fun Star Wars film and always will be my favourite

My main two problems with it are: 1) Doing the Death Star a second time is underwhelming. 2) Nothing Luke does on the Death Star helps the Rebellion in any way. It was going to blow up irrespective of anything he did with Vader or the Emperor.

My hottest Star Wars take is that Empire Strikes Back is only celebrated as much as it is because Return of the Jedi stuck the landing so well. Empire has a LOT that makes NO sense out of context that nobody thinks about because of how well it is executed and how a lot of the stuff they left up in the air was resolved later in Return of the Jedi. Case in point, every OUNCE of Vader's humanity and redeemability in the OT is in Return of the Jedi. Boba Fett's only fighting scene is in Return of the Jedi. Jabba the Hutt and the Emperor as we know them were introduced in Return of the Jedi even though their concepts existed before. When you think of iconic OT Star Wars villains, with the exception of Tarkin, you are most likely thinking of Return of the Jedi.

RoTJ is the best of the OT and may well be the best of the saga. I tend to switch between this film and RoTS, depending on whether I'm in the mood for a happy or sad ending.

I’m exactly the same. Loved Jedi as a kid. But now prefer Empire. It’s the same with Indiana Jones, loved Temple Of Doom. Hated Last Crusade. Now I love Last Crusade and often skip Temple of Doom

The Ewoks have a purpose. It makes sense the empire would build the shield where the inhabitants serve no threat. Which makes it more satisfying when they help take them down. They may be small and cutesy but it’s not just for the sake of selling toys. They’re supposed to look harmless and innocent. And they aren’t mindless characters they do have a functional society.
