@drewfornow: Anti-immigration is going global, it’s not just happening in the US. As Japan’s new supermajority solidifies anti immigrant policies, Italy continues to try for third country deportations, and Portugal bucks the trend with a center presidential winner, I’m tracking global trends on immigration policies on actually what’s happening #immigration #japan #portugal #spain #worldtok

Japan will become a lot poorer and a lot more dysfunctional in the future, It’s an inevitably regardless. You can’t have a country where everyone is old

While Spain and Portugal are making immigration easier, while also boosting social welfare. They will be the real winners longtime

The Netherlands, Germany, France are all leaning in the the same direction and even the most welcoming Sweden is doing a U turn because they have see. No positive impact and are a massive drain on a very generous welfare state

Immigration is a pro corporate policy. Just like AI, capitalism demands cheapening and weakening of labor

And then there’s Denmark, whose supposedly “left-leaning” PM has embraced an anti-immigration stance to appease right-wingers.

I think you should look in to some countries changing laws to revoke citizenships easier. It’s been happening where I live, and I read that some European countries have been changing laws to make it easier to do that. I think the uk was one of them

I think it’s a mistake to think politics in other countries follows or is influenced by the United States, rather than are responding to pressures of their own. It’s a really US-centric view. Lots of countries look on the U.S. only with disdain, a disdain that‘s now only grown.

It’s interesting that many countries would look to limit immigration when these countries also claim to be concerned with the declining birth rate.

Brazil's immigration and refugee policies are very interesting, and though not perfect, have been goong against the anti-immigration trend. I would be glad to help you with resources as I have volunteered with refugee cases in Brazil for years 😁

Maybe an analysis of how Covid impacted immigration. I’m an immigrant in Canada, we came in Jan.2020 and we felt very welcomed but the economic crisis that followed Covid changed the mindset, fair I guess. Locals started to notice how their income became less and how the refugee programs work and their benefits. That caused disruption in how they see immigration as a whole not just refugees.

China and North Korea have been doing this for decades and no one cried about it. people claim to not like the US and that is such a horrible country so when they acknowledge that and tell people you don't have to be here suddenly everyone's mad at that too
