These are the most depressing pieces of news. I remember like a decade ago those articles from the 70s talked about the 20 hour work week because less people will need to do less. I wish we would do that.

I’m a law librarian at a big firm (AmLaw 50). They’ve spent millions on AI resources and I use 3 different ones everyday. It’s our job to help attorneys check these sources but they won’t fill our open positions because we have the AI. That means less eyes on the product and larger workloads. Hallucinations get through all the time and will slowly be appearing in actual case law.

I'm a gray beard software engineer and I still will die in the hill that the internet was not as much of an innovation to productivity as people think. people just have no idea what refrigeration and Air flight and mass communication did to this world for better or for worse in some cases

I think we could run into the 80/20 problem with Ai. It will be able to do the 80% of the work that requires 20% of the effort easily, but still need humans to do most of the 20% of work that requires 80% of the effort.
