It's very good if you do lots of small cuts. If not use a push stick.

Can you give an example of having to use the miter saw ? I haven’t started wood work yet and am setting up shop … so do I have to get one ?

We pretty much put a small scarp of wood against the fence that extends wider then the opening then put the small piece that you are cutting against it. Make your cut. I can’t imagine using a sled on the job. Nice idea though 🙂
