Thank you so much @MOTEL, this is a dream come true. Also sorry When I’m excited I mess up my words. #motelrocks #jeans
I used to say, “I will NEVER be like my mum.” Then I got married… and found myself repeating some of the very patterns I hated growing up. The yelling. The harsh tone. The anger. I watched my dad cry as a child. Years later, I watched my own husband cry because of the way I spoke to him. That was a painful mirror. But my mum is not the villain in this story. She lost her mother at 5, had a difficult childhood, married at 16, and carried wounds into marriage that she probably didn’t have the tools to process. But I also watched her grow. I watched her heal. I watched my parents’ marriage become beautiful. And it taught me something powerful: You are not sentenced to remain who your wounds taught you to be. When I saw those same patterns showing up in my own marriage, I knew saying, “I’ll never be like my mum,” wasn’t enough. I had to do the work. I turned to God. I went to therapy. I developed self-awareness. I learned healthier communication. I stopped hiding behind, “That’s just my tone.” Because generational trauma doesn’t end because we hate it. It ends when we confront it. If you’re on a healing journey, breaking generational cycles, recovering from childhood trauma, or learning how to build healthy relationships, remember this: Name the pattern. Find the root. Take responsibility. Get the help you need. Practice a different response until it becomes your new normal. You can have compassion for your parents’ wounds while still healing from what wounded you. You can honor where you came from without repeating everything that came from there. Healing isn’t just saying, “I’ll never become them.” Healing is doing the work to become different. ❤️ #fyppage #GenerationalTrauma #truestory #storytime #EmotionalHealing
