@emma.in.the.mountains: did you know that mosses are immune to death by drying? mosses have no roots, which leaves them completely at the mercy of rain, mist, dew, and other elements to get their water. when their source of water disappears however, they are able to completely suspend activity and can lose up to 98% of their water content, and stay in this suspended state for up to 40 years (in lab conditions), only to be completely revived by a dunk in a bucket of water. mosses are patient. skilled in the art of waiting. of never taking too much from their environment and always giving more back. we have a lot to learn from our friends the mosses. #moss #nature #Hiking #outdooreducation #learnsomethingnew
