You overlooked one important detail: A0 is exactly 1 square meter, and other sizes are determined by how many times you fold the A0 paper.

You could probably start with A0 having 841 x 1180 (1:√2 ratio) and an area of 1 square meter. So A1 = 1/2 m2 A2 = 1/4 m2 A3 = 1/8 m2 A4 = 1/16 m2 etc So 16 sheets of A4 make AO (1m2)

A0 is also exactly 1m² so everytime you go smaller, you half the area as well. There's also a second variant, B where B0 has a width of 1000mm instead.

For those wondering, a single sheet of A0 paper is exactly 1 m² big, that's why that is the baseline.
