I get if you listened to her when you were in a bad place mentally will probably make you not want to listen to her again, but if you don’t listen to her just because her music is ‘sad’ then you are not a ‘real fan’. Mitski herself has said before that she doesn’t want to be restricted to the “sad indie girl” label and that her music is up for interpretation. The emotions and feelings her music evokes are so much deeper than sad and I think ‘emotional’ is a better word to describe her music.
