How can I tell that it’s centered? It’ll look centered but I’ll quickly realize it isn’t & at that point it’s too late to save. Are there any other indicators or do I need to measure? (My studio asks us to use bats so the lines on the wheel don’t really help)

ive been trying pottery on and off as a working mommy of soon to be 5 for the last 2 years and I have been picking it up again after a few months hiatus. my wheel is a cheap one 😆 but I am determined.. this week i have had the biggest centering fails. :( I will try this tomorrow! I made this tea set and fired for the first time this past weekend 😆... i have been struggling to get back since.

This is exactly how I teach it. The only difference is I tell kids to not touch the clay and slowly sneak up on it with those hand business so that they’re not trying to strangle it first thing.
