There’s a part of me in that empty funeral home after the main service was complete still holding him, smelling the wax and the makeup knowing this is the last hug I would give him and the last hug he would ever get before he was turned to ash. There’s a part of me that’s just stuck there. Grandpa, I didn’t want to keep the promise. I knew I would when I said the words. It felt like a simple thing to say but it was the truth. “There was a hole in me that was never the same after” and I’d told you “That’s what it would be like if I ever lost you”. Two years later… I did. And such simple words echo such an everlasting ache that lays underneath my skin every single day. There’s no one in the world like you and in life that was beautiful, but you have no idea how much I would trade to bump into someone who even looked at little like you better yet hugs like you or was anything at all like the man who poured every ounce of good within me. Im so alone, Grandpa.

Time doesnt heal wounds but it does give you the time to learn how to navigate through those unbearable emotions. Never any easier but more manageable. Learn to love the pain as sometimes thats all you have left of them.
