Thanks to this arc, Tomoya and Mei have become the characters I hate the most in Clannad. For Mei, if she's really concerned about Sunohara as she always tries to act, why don't just tell him straight? Do you really need to ignore your brother all the time to flirt with your brother's best friend despite knowing that he already has Nagisa. You want your brother's care but have you ever really cared about his feelings or just assume it as your brother's responsibility to care for you? An apology is never for Sunohara, for what this selfish and mean sister ever did to you. All she does is crying and crying, never respecting his brother well enough

i haven’t watched clannad in a while but i remember hating this arc so much and actually a lot of season 1 primarily bc of how they kept making okazaki somehow the solution to EVERYONES problems, and it made it feel like no one had any real agency of their own. I also hated how sunohara was mistreated by the story and i knew that at some point he was going to be focused on, but even within his own arc he was moreso villainized than victimized and okazaki yet again had to serve as the solution to his arc by pretending to date his little sister?? i can understand if the intention of okazaki’s willingness to help others is meant to juxtapose his helplessness with his own problems in after story, but it still upsets me to think that all of these characters, and primarily sunohara, were robbed of their agency. Like literally the whole little sister dating thing happened and sunohara was like, “I only let it happen because it was you”, like why are we putting okazaki on a pedestal in YOUR arc 😭😭
