@babysleepteam: Want to start with great sleep foundations from the get go with your newborn? 🪄 I’m Cat, a pediatric sleep consultant- I help tired AF parents get their baby sleeping well (in no particular order): 1. PAUSE: Newborns are noisy sleepers. I would always leap up the moment I heard my baby make sounds and pick them up, but I would unintentionally wake my baby up by accident! Now I teach new mamas to pause before they rush to pick up their baby so that they know they are 100% awake first. If you need help with doing this, count to 100 first, or make yourself go to the bathroom first. ❤️ 2. Put your newborn down for naps in the light. Babies are born with an underdeveloped circadian rhythm which means that they often have day vs. night confusion -they literally don’t know the difference. Dark naps will come -but not yet! You don’t need to think about having naps in the dark until around 10 weeks (or when you know for sure your baby doesn’t have day vs. night confusion) 3. Get to know your baby: You might think that this is a silly thing to say, because of COURSE you’re going to get to know your baby! But what I mean by this is REALLY get to understand your baby’s temperament as this is everything to help you know how to respond to your little one. Babies are born with their temperament and they will dictate your journey as a parent. 5. Recreate the womb. Babies are born too early! They come out of the womb because they get too big...but in the newborn stage (aka 4th trimester), you should be looking after them like they’re still in the womb to help them with the transition. Want EVERYTHING you need to get your newborn sleeping well to do everything that’s within your control?
