Echo Field Hypothesis: Reinterpreting Cosmic Expansion and Structure as Intrinsic Properties of Space-Time
Abstract
Recent high-precision measurements of the universe’s large-scale behavior, such as galaxy surveys and distance indicators, increasingly suggest that expansion is not constant over time or scale. For example, combined data from projects like DESI (showing hints at ~3–4.2σ levels when paired with cosmic microwave background and supernova observations) point to evolving patterns, though not yet conclusive. These findings challenge traditional models and invite a fresh look at how we explain the universe’s dynamics.
This work proposes the Echo Field Hypothesis, shifting away from viewing “dark energy” (driving expansion) and “dark matter” (enabling galaxy clustering) as mysterious, unseen substances added to space. Instead, we hypothesize that these effects arise from space itself—treated as a dynamical medium with built-in properties. Here, space’s three spatial dimensions and time as the fourth form a unified four-dimensional system, where large-scale stretching (expansion) and local binding (clumping) are simply different responses of the same structure. This “echo field” is a subtle imprint from the universe’s early rapid growth, acting like a scalar field woven into space-time’s fabric, without needing extra components.
Observations fit naturally: Expansion behaves like the medium’s global tension, while clustering acts as its local stiffness, with changes spreading at finite speeds like damping. The cosmological constant remains a useful descriptor of current behavior, not an eternal rule. By removing labels like “dark” and focusing on space-time as the core system, this view simplifies explanations, cuts reliance on undetected particles or energies, and highlights testable measurements—such as patterns in galaxy distributions or gravitational waves—that anyone can grasp.
The hypothesis avoids predicting dramatic cosmic endings, prioritizing humble, evidence-based study of space-time as the dominant framework, with stars, galaxies, and us as minor perturbati
