Key Features of The Great Bath Dimensions: The pool is roughly 12 meters (39 feet) long, 7 meters (23 feet) wide, with a maximum depth of 2.4 meters (8 feet). Waterproofing: To ensure it held water, the floor and walls were constructed with finely fitted baked bricks, gypsum plaster, and a thick, watertight layer of bitumen (natural tar). Access: Two wide staircases on the north and south sides lead down into the pool, featuring a small, shallow ledge for, potentially, safer entry. Water Supply & Drainage: A nearby, large, double-ring well likely supplied water, while a dedicated, corbelled-arch drain in the southwest corner efficiently removed used water. Surrounding Structures: The bath is located on a "citadel" mound and is surrounded by a brick-colonnaded courtyard and several rooms, which may have been used for changing, or as a "College of Priests".
