Nobody seems to be understanding that he loved her so much to undamn their souls and thus create the possibility of reuniting and actually living forever in the afterlife as opposed to until the world ends is KILLING ME. he loved her so much that he refused to damn her pure soul, as much as it pained him, he CHOSE THE LONG GAME. It was different in such a beautiful way because in this version he lost his one true love and he turned away form God. “vampirism” was his punishment for doing so. Because he turned away from God he wasn’t permitted to die and be reunited with his one true love Elizabeth. In this retelling and following the time and place it occurred there were basically whispers that genuinely pure souls could reincarnate if God so chose. I truly believe that because of Draculs unwillingness to turn back to God and seek true repentance out of what seems to be rage on the surface but is actually despair and sorrow, God decided that 400 years was a long enough punishment. God was merciful in the way that he not only reincarnated his one true love, he let them cross paths and have a moments reprieve before sending his dutiful servant (the priest) to show dracul that the only way was to turn back to God. In doing so he would lose his ability to be with his one true love on earth, but by undamning his soul he would undamn all those he turned. Including his Elizabeth. The priest made him realize that she might have been his salvation, but in his current state he was her damnation. So people crying and whining about the ending is sending me into orbit and I can’t fathom how they aren’t grasping the complexity of the delayed unconventional happy ending 😭
