@pablothedon: J. Cole released The Fall Off and I feel like we’re in the same place as we were 12 years ago. If this is the end it’s very bitter sweet. #jcole #hiphop #rapmusic #newmusic #thefalloff

I’m so confused by these reviews. They seem to come from a perspective that artists should be where WE want them to be creatively. Dissecting and comparing everything to their last project or their peers instead of appreciating (or not) the art that THEY put out. It’s not up to us to say a person should evolve a certain way and if you know Cole he isn’t doing things just to appease the masses. I agree on the fact that his motivations are different and he doesn’t want the fame or rise. Just truly wants his music heard and connect to who he was supposed to.

I’ve been saying for years that JCole’s core theme is always survivor’s remorse and until he actually deals with that it’s going to sound the same over and over.

I’m not understanding this review after hearing the fall off. We are hearing different new flows (hit the gas, the let out) We are actually hearing newer story telling concepts like in man up above, more reflective of him having a family, concepts like talking to his 29 year old self, his child self, concepts like quik stop again are an evolved story telling concept. I would’ve agreed with this review before the fall of dropped. This is by far his most introspective reflective piece of work so to have you create this doesn’t tell me you really sat with the album, but already had an agenda going into it

I feel like Cole isn't versatile enough as an artist to carry 100 minutes of music virtually by himself without things becoming slightly redundant after a while.

This why I think it so disingenuous to compare Kendrick and Cole album and career. Kendrick has a message and makes sure you heard it. Cole is just about rap and that all he want to do is just rap. He doesn’t want the fame and accolades. Yall keep saying he talking about the same stuff, but for me it guy trying to stay true to himself and talking about the struggles of that. He not making music to evolve as an artist, he making music for himself and for his fans to appreciate it.

He said this in Heavens EP . Success is in the effort, so if a dude tried his hardest I'm at peace knowin God ain't deal it in this group of cards for me Some people say that I'm runnin' third, they threw the bronze at me Behind Drake and Dot, yeah, them dudes is superstars to me Maybe deep down, I'm afraid of my luminosity So when you see me on red carpets, I'm movin' awkwardly

I don’t agree that Cole hasn’t evolved since 2014 FHD. 🤦🏾‍♂️Some people confuse no reinvention with stagnation. Others see it as authenticity. Not every artist evolves by changing their sound dramatically. Some evolve by refining their craft. That’s like saying Michael Jordan isn’t the greatest because he didn’t switch teams like LeBron. Staying in the same lane doesn’t mean you didn’t evolve. It means you mastered your lane.

Cole is the guy so worried about being told he forgot where he came from that he reminds you of where he came from in every project. Which isn’t “bad,” but it does get stale at times.

it's not that deep, Cole is a better rapper than anybody rapping today, even ten times better than a younger him.man y'all need to stop downplaying the mans greatness in the name of "a deeper perspective"

This criticism is fair, but it’s unfair to compare any rapper to Kendrick, whose growth and talent are just on another level from all his peers

The problem with J Cole is he has no personality or uniqueness. There’s nothing he does that only him or him and a few others do.

The events of 2024 shocked me because I didn't know the backpack rap fans had so much hatred for J Cole. To say Cole hasn't evolved since 2014 is just so wild.

Idunno, I disagree with the critique because KOD was an album about consumption and addiction. And he rapped about the different forms of it. Off season was just rap, so I get that.

I never been a big J Cole fan. The only album I really listen to is KOD. Hearing about this album doesn’t push me to go listen.

THANK YOU! This was so eloquently said about how I felt listening to this album. His talent and potential as an artist really put him in a position to say something bigger than fame is evil but it never quite connected and I feel like at this stage in his life/career I didn’t need another homecoming album

I don’t know what in Kendrick’s discography suggest he’s evolved so much in comparison, I’d love to hear what people are picking up on that I haven’t. The seeds for his current work were also there on TPAB & DAMN, so I’m confused

cole has always been a rapper first and artist second, and since his early days, he's evolved on that and became a better and better rapper with time while kendrick started off strong in rapping and chose to evolve more towards the creative artistry. so I feel like Kendrick evolved as a better artist but Cole became the better rapper and their albums and recent works for proof.
