@ajplus: Cambridge University agreed to return 116 Benin Bronzes stolen by British troops during their colonization of Nigeria. But it reportedly said it will keep 17 others in one of its museums on “loan,” along with about 400 other items from the Kingdom of Benin. In 1897, British troops stole thousands of plaques and sculptures known as the Benin Bronzes, as well as other artifacts, when they sacked the Kingdom of Benin, which is in present-day Nigeria. They have since been scattered across museums and private collections in the West. The British Museum holds the largest collection of Benin Bronzes and has refused to return them. In 2024, archivists found that Cambridge’s collection includes an estimated 350,000 artifacts and documents taken from Africa during colonization, including over 6,000 human remains mostly from Egypt and Sudan. #Nigeria #Artifacts #Stolen #British #Colonization

These items were personal property that was removed from the original owners possession! legally, that's theft! The descendants of the original owners have legal rights to retrieve their families property!

Thieves never admit they are wrong. What would be left in the British Museum if they returned everything to the rightful owners. And their is the argument that if they did return the items they would be sold of and disappear any way. Saying that Items have been stolen from the British museum by employees and sold of also.

what is a thief to do if he isnt thief no more...for rest of world it may be aimple matter of having goods returned from when their life, community, nation and families were brutally destroyed..but for one nation and its museum, these stolen artifacts are identity..who would British museum and its owners be if they give it all away 😱 what a rude thing to expect of them 😌
