To reduce the smell I would get rid of the shelves in the cage and just fill it with fall breakers. I’d also have a deep layer of substrate at the bottom - that also helps with smell. Finally, I would change the food. A balanced diet will help with the smell of urine and poop. I’d recommend looking at Rat Rations 😊 This is a picture of my cage with no shelves

amazing pets, I had 18. Only thing I would say is, the bars need covering where they walk, as it can give them bumble foot, to walk on them. 😊

rats owners could I use this for my 3 female rats (I put this in multiple rat calculators and it says it can hold up to 4 rats) the black bottoms aren't remaining on planning using a deep container for their substrate base
