Data centers are also a ton of moving parts and maintenance. You can't just launch them and hope nothing breaks. It's unfeasible with our current technology right now

They are going to start using freshwater lakes in the future and the government will let them.

Exactly, Heat Radiation 400wm^2 for copper is not that good. Air and Water mass-temp on earth have a large heat flux. Nature wins with 1 - T2/T1

How do you do orbital adjustment for something that big and i am even ignoring the millions of trips it would take to transport everything up there. And now I am thinking of the need for a space station for the workers who will put this thing together 😂 only a dedicated nation state can pull it off but then why? It’s not cost effective in our current technological level

I just keep thinking about the latency of this thing, bc they could make multiple launches and build a whole space station worth of material, but then is the signal any good?

Who’s has gone to space beside ET, “NASA” rocket man, Kerry Perry with the gang of 5 and the .0001% billionaires? When I see Elon on one of his “spaceXShip”

Hmm, not sure if weight is an issue. light structure can probably be assembled in situ. interesting challenges with cooling though.. Either way, we need some "dreamers" to motivate the next generation. I don't even mind the over promising if it inspires new minds to join the challenge ✌️

I think they have started submitting patents but nowhere near materialising it yet

The energy required to put data centers in orbit makes it not feasible

Been studying this for 7 years as an edge compute SME. While solar is 6x more effective in space, I can’t get over the power budget math. A single 2U Dell server is a 1000 watt device, now rack 100 of them. Sure custom form factor hardware with lower SWAP-C will be used, but there’s no room-sized UPS or diesel generators for a space-based data center.

It’s really terrible idea, how are they going to maintain or upgrade when next gen chips come out, and given it’s large footprint a single space debris can it wipe out , possibly causing more debris to hit other data centers nearby
