@thebreathingphysio: When your breath feels “stuck” in your upper chest & air hunger is getting worse … most people try to breathe harder. You chase that “satisfying” breath. The next one doesn’t land. So you try again. And again. You start to panic when none of your breaths are giving you relief …. Eventually, you get one “good” breath… But then the cycle starts all over again. That chase is what fuels dysfunctional breathing. You begin breathing excessively into the upper chest. You stack breaths on top of each other. Breathing becomes forced and manual instead of quiet and automatic. Over time, your diaphragm (your primary breathing muscle) loses coordination and efficiency because the neck and upper chest muscles are doing a job they were never designed to sustain when breathing!! Air hunger isn’t a sign you need more air. It’s a sign your breathing system is stuck in a dysfunctional loop … and breathing MORE will make it worse. It creates biomechanical breathing imbalances. Excess pressure through the mid back and ribcage. Chest tightness. Neck pain . Panic. Effortless diaphragmatic breathing breaks that cycle. Not by forcing deeper breaths, but by restoring optimal breathing rhythms, biomechanics, and ease so your breathing can become natural again. What questions do you have about the vicious dysfunctional breathing cycle? LMK in the comments below! #dysfunctionalbreathing #breathingpatterndisorder #thebreathingphysio #airhunger

That uncomfortable feeling that your lungs are full of air but can't take a proper deep breath at the same time... and you need that yawn to have a satisfying deep breath but you can't have a full yawn also.

For me, it seems to be linked to stress. When I am in a stressful situation, my breathing automatically changes and triggers air hunger and then panic. How can I overcome this? I can't achieve correct diaphragmatic breathing when I am stressed.

I have a problem where my attention automatically goes to movement around me, like curtains moving or objects moving. When I see movement, I suddenly become very aware of my breathing. It sometimes feels like my breathing is connected to the movement, or like my breath gets stuck.
Even though I know logically that I am physically fine, I can’t stop focusing on movement and then on my breathing. It makes me anxious and uncomfortable, especially when watching videos. Helppp

I been dealing with this and I think it’s related to acid reflux… it started during a very stressful period in my life. It’s awful.
