@babysleepcode: If your baby wakes as soon as you put them down in their cot, it's likely their Moro reflex being triggered. This simple technique can help you achieve more successful transfers and give your baby a better chance of staying asleep. Babies have a natural startle reflex (the Moro reflex) that can jolt them awake when they experience sudden movement or a change in position. So when you transfer them from your arms to their cot, that sudden shift can wake them right up. The technique that can help is to lower your baby into their cot so their feet touch the mattress first, then their bum, then their head. Keep a firm hand on your baby's chest until they start to settle into sleep, then slowly remove it. By lowering their feet into the cot first, you're giving them time to adjust to the change in position gradually, and you'll have a better chance of them staying asleep. Swaddling before settling them to sleep can help as well.
