I use to put juice in my children cups and cleaned ther cups EVERYDAY with no e-coli. So this is telling me, the cups wasn't being cleaned much.

this is kinda why you wash it. I found out I was the only one washing my youngest stepdaughters waterbottle and I took the mouthpiece apart and found mold. neither her dad nor her mom would wash the bottle. I ended up buying her a new one

I use only disposable straws now. Found hidden mold in one of my disposable cups once. That’s all it took. 🥴
