Yeah, I'll just tell you the real reason. Trains run in a straight line from Fukuoka to Tokyo. There is one railway connecting Shikoku to Honshu. A lot of shipping is done by ferry because it's easier. It's a bit strange to think about because it has 3 million people and 4 prefectures yet Hokkaido has 5 million people and one prefecture. Once upon a time, it was considered very populated. In fact, in 1873, Tokushima was the 10th largest city in Japan. Kagawa is dry but locals have historically just grown wheat. Shikoku is not depopulating because of that. It had a warm climate and access to fish. On top of that, shipping by boat used to be easier than shipping by land. Trains and cars changed that. Shikoku's population decline is due to industrialisation, not droughts or anything like that
