Mmm… I feel like a lot of people are over simplifying and misconstruing concepts. I havent researched metacognition intelligence but here’s my 2 cents — this’ll probably be long: The intelligence being spoken here, like all intelligence, is experienced through developmental stages. People are referring to anxious rumination as not metacognition, however, parts of it are. Ruminating on someone else’s perspective of your behaviors is useful if you understand the person’s perspective (preferably communicated to you) and utilize the comparison to how you think you should be acting and thinking. You should not be deferring to other’s judgements of you solely because other people — not even the closest people to you — fully understand your lived experience. However, without external feedback you’ll likely develop narcissistic traits as a protective mechanism Anxiety is a signifier of fear and care, like jealousy is fear, care and anger. These emotions are all useful, particularly when noticed, to redirect your thoughts, responses, and emotions. Eventually anxiety can be noticed and managed into a next level of metacognitive intelligence. This leads into the self awareness topic. Self awareness not exclusive to metacognitive development if it’s not analyzed and applied. If your self awareness keeps you from expressing yourself genuinely and thoughtfully and connecting with the world around you, then your self awareness is not expanding your metacognitive intelligence and development. Furthermore, metacognitive development is not common sense. Common sense varies between cultures, socioeconomic classes, political viewpoints, and so much more. Your common sense will be a reflection of your own development, lived experiences, and morals. Saying something is common sense can ultimately be your acknowledgment to stopping your metacognitive development. Your common sense should be analyzed, compared and evaluated to other’s and should grow not only from your experiences but the experiences of people around you — both in your cultures and outside of your cultures. If your metacognition is leading you towards pain, then it needs to be further developed.
