It’s his conscious feeling guilt. He had guilt for killing Candace when he believed her to be dead, but after Love killed her he knew her blood was not on his hands in his twisted mind. He only hallucinated Love as a sick monster in Season 4, because he saw her as a monster like himself. Beck also was his longest lasting NORMAL relationship. While he did take out many to gain her love, while in the relationship he held back on being a murderer, whilst with Love he had already had a tainted view on her after the Candace incident, and only stayed for his son and out of fear for his image.
