Research shows that creative breakthroughs emerge when the brain enters strong Alpha states — particularly during incubation and illumination (“eureka”) phases. High-IQ problem solving, on the other hand, requires a different ability: the brain must shift out of Alpha to analyze, refine, and execute. In other words: Creativity = entering Alpha. Problem solving = knowing when to suppress it. Peak thinkers can do both.
