@officialkittenlady: The DNA results are in...and wow, they are fascinating! 🧬 Despite their different fur lengths, this whole family has a mix of Sphynx, American Domestic, and Devon Rex in their lineage. Hippo got two hairlessness alleles, so she is nude. Polly has two long haired alleles, so she ended up fluffy. Buddy and Kitty Surprise are carriers, but with only one copy, these autosomal recessive traits don’t express. It just goes to show that physical traits and breed ancestry are not one in the same! One piece I didn’t share in the video is about genetic diversity. While Kitty Surprise has above average diversity, well, let’s just say her babies’ results are not as diverse. Their results suggest that their dad...may also be their uncle. Oops! This does seem suggestive of a surprise pregnancy that could have led to their abandonment. We’ll never know all of the details, but science does get us pretty far in building a plausible background. Luckily, Wisdom Panel kits also test for genetic health conditions, and everyone is clear!
