@khaiicos: Let’s chat about what it’s like to experience the switch from girl to boy social roles as a trans man 🧐 this is a big one, I really hope I’ve done it some justice! I’d also like to emphasise that while SOME of my relationships with women have changed, I am still very lucky and grateful to have an enormously supportive network of women in my life. This is an observation of what I’ve experienced from some women since transitioning, not a reflection of all women in queer spaces 😁💜 #trans #ftm #🏳️‍⚧️ #transgender

I think the experiences of trans men are incredibly valuable for all men, because you are able to articulate experiences that for most of us occurred when we were too young to understand what was being done to us. Thank you for sharing your story.

This is why I have an issue with people saying "Who set that system up" as if the average working man isn't also hurt by the patriarchy.

If it's any affirmation, this is pre puberty- puberty for cis men, I remember distinctly having to re evaluate friendships and even family relationships because I was no longer "sweet, harmless boy" and I had no control over it.

Same here. Especially as a black man, the world started treating me like a threat and less like a person, regardless of political side. Thank you for speaking on this.

Buckle up....it will get worse. But kudos for adjusting and sharing. Real men will have your back and support you if you need to talk.

It’s nice to hear you speak about this because sometimes when cis men talk about it, it seems to be met without empathy or grace. Which, I can understand why but it doesn’t really help you when you’re trying to be vulnerable and make connections.

I deeply, deeply hate how people carry the “men and women can’t be friends” nonsense into our adult lives. Obviously as a woman I can’t relate fully to your experience, but as a sapphic person,,,,the part about feeling cut off from close female friendships because of perceived sexual interest hits really hard. Solidarity with you, friend 💗

That's exactly what feminists mean when they say men suffer from patriarchy too.

I work as an rmt and I used to treat men and women the same but warmth and gentleness always got perceived as an ivitation to cross boundaries or act 'weird' toward me and my space. so now im on gaurd but also keep a wall up around men.

Male socialization is ROUGH! I started regularly passing as male about 6 months on T and it was the weirdest kind of whiplash. Bell hooks was right when she said patriarchy asks boys to kill the empathetic part of themselves to survive. And suddenly people assumed I had done that to myself and needed harsh lessons on empathy whenever I was treading across invisible lines that weren’t previously there. Even from people who knew me well beforehand and I thought appreciated my vulnerability and candor.

Yeah! Trying to fit into more sensitive, queer, Afab dominated spaces before I transitioned to female was challenging and still is challenging at times. Part of why I have an axe to grind with these communities not being very accepting of masculinity.

As a cis man it’s very interesting to get some perspective from someone who has seen both sides of the coin, hope you’re able to figure out a way to make it work for you

I've been a man my whole life and I still I haven't figured out how to create close bonds with men. and all my friendships with women are in question all the time, for those very same reasons. it's brutal and lonely

This is a critical perspective. The gender relations will benefit from trans people talking about their experience.

Wait until you're in a space feeling frustrated or unheard and a woman who is more powerful and more senior than you says you're being intimidating. Raised voice, sharper actions and you're not even aware but the other person sees you as violent, as a threat. It fucking sucks man.

I've said this to my trans son. you are a Trans man and should be proud. you get to experience and understand the world from multiple perspectives and experiences. I can see why people of two spirit and multi/other gendered from other cultures were revered and sought after for wisdom. speaking about your experiences are invaluable to the world. with your story here as a man we may never know any different. as a woman, they may never know there was a difference. it is only those that have lived both that can shine a light and maybe make things better for everyone.

It’s funny how everybody’s experience is different. I was told by my employers while presenting as female that my approach was aggressive and confrontational and I needed to smile more. Yet they would describe that same behavior in a man as confident. 🤔

This is one one of the many reasons trans voices are soooo valuable. Having lived both a male and female experience, no one has translated ideas like this better to me than the trans people I know. Thank you!
